Top 10 New Computer Keyboards in 2008

29 August 2008 13,494 views 5 Comments

Christopher Latham Sholes patented the typewriter that we commonly use today in 1868. However, today’s technology is taking us places we have never been before.  The cool part about it is - we are part of that very technology and get to enjoy the cool gadgets that come from it.

Here recently I have been seeing a lot of talk about computer keyboards, wireless computer keyboards and lighted computer keyboards. Who would have ever thought the common - large letter keyboards would soon become light weight, lite, wireless and even laser? After researching the different types of computer keyboards that are offered I kinda got to where I want one! Although I still like the old fashion computer keyboard - trying this new technology would defiantly be something I would be willing to do!

New 2008 Computer Keyboards

1 ) VIRTUAL LASER COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Virtual Laser Computer KeyboardIf you can carry a phone in your pocket or laptop case you can now carry this laser computer keyboard. Although the new technology be the small size that it is does not however eliminate the size of its power and capability.

The Virtual Keyboard leverages the power of laser and infrared technology and projects a full-size keyboard onto any flat surface. The virtual keyboard comes with adapters for Palm, PocketPC, USB, Serial and a power cable to charge the device. Type all your text in your PC, PDA or laptop with ease and with the convenience to do it anywhere!

2 ) ROLL UP COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Roll Up Computer KeyboardI was very thrilled to see this new cool gadget and at the affordable price at just around $25. Enjoy a full 104 keys in a standard QWERTY layout, fully portable and wider keys with improved sensors on the “Space’ and “Backspace” keys contain multiple sensors to improve typing accuracy.

I would suggest this for those laptop users that enjoy a full key computer keyboard. It rolls up small enough to fit in all your laptop cases and brief cases. For those of you that want a quiet keyboard while writing reports or playing games this is the ideal solution for you!

3 ) LUXEED (Color) COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Luxeed Color Computer KeyboardI’m sure most of us have seen those lighted computer keyboards but the new 430 LED Luxeed keyboards allow for each key to be any color you could ever wish it to be. When I first seen this I said to myself, “Oh, well that’s cool, but when would I ever use that?” I answered my own question when I seen that this keyboard offers 4 presets which allows you to set up different colors schemes for different operations.

One may be a particular game in which you would apply a color to your favorite and most used buttons - another may be for certain program that you may use and apply colors to your short-cuts that are most used.

Choose between black or white. The keys of the white Luxeed have a semi-transparent look and light up more brightly than the black. However the black Luxeed has a stylish treatment with only the letters being illuminated. This is defiantly one that I would enjoy having.

4 ) TWIDDLES2 COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Twiddler2 Hand Held Computer KeyboardMost of my research I have found that most of these new computer keyboards are all compact enough to either fit in your pocket or laptop bag. The Twiddler2 is a hand hand - pocket sized unit which allow to use the pointer mouse and full keyboard at the same time - hand held. I have seen and used the hand held mouse that came out early last year but doesn’t work for me to well considering I enjoy posting and web development.

Not sure how much better this technology is but I’m sure its a little nicer considering that it has the keyboard and pointer mouse all in one.

5 ) myKeyo COMPUTER KEYBOARD

myKeyo Computer KeyboardOkay this is just cool! I am not sure about you but I have a lot of stuff that I probably don’t necessarily ‘need’ but defiantly can not live without. The problem is not that I do not have stuff - it’s I have no where to put it all, which can create a problem.

This new computer keyboard comes with plenty of space to store your scissors, keys, CD’s, desk accessories, pens, mail, papers, pictures and tons more. myKeyO keyboard comes standard with cool features including backlit keys, a scroll wheel, volume control, and an integrated palm rest area. You can have this baby for $35 for wired models and $50 for wireless keyboard models. If your looking for a little extra space while on the go or sitting at your computer desk - this is defiantly the computer keyboard for you!

6 ) GLIDER MOUSE COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Glider Mouse Computer KeyboardWeird looking you say? I would have to agree with you. Some even say this new computer gadgets is hard to use which I could see as well. However, I have read that once you start using this new keyboard you begin to learn how to operate it better and start being attached to its concept. Unless I am typing, I normally only use once hand anyway on the keyboard just because I use the mouse and shortcuts 95% of the time while doing web building, design, etc.

I just love the look of the little thing - The centered mouse resembles a hockey table. When I first seen it I thought “Wow! A keyboard and hockey table all in one! Now that’s sweet.” This is NOT a hockey table but I’m sure could be use as such if you so desired. I would like to try this one out to see how it really operates.

7 ) CUSTOMIZABLE COMPUTER KEYBOARD

DX1 Customizeable Computer KeyboardAs spoken earlier, ever since the beginning of keyboards we have used the common QWERTY ‘ASDF‘GH’JKL;‘ layout and millions of people have been taught to use only that one layout. Why? Because that was the only one available. But now that has changed!

The all new customizable computer keyboard comes standard with the opportunity to change the layout to what you prefer many times as you were - whenever you want! The DX1 System is great for gaming, software, Photoshop, web design, and preferences that are fully customized for each button.

Choose your own layout. Find your own way to reload your weapon or shield bash your opponent. Find your own method for creating short-cut keys for your photo editing software. This time - It’s Your way!

8 ) CRAYOLA COMPUTER KEYBOARD

I had the great opportunity to be directly involved with the computer industry at a young age, being first exposed by my father. I started really getting a decent root for computer and the basic concept around 10 or so. Crayola Computer KeyboardThat is not the case now days! Now days I have 3 cousins ages 3, 6 and 8 that can keep up with me on just about every game, surf the net with ease and create basic Word/PowerPoint documents. Times are advancing. Kids are advancing!

That leads me to the all new computer keyboard Crayola is now offering for ages 3 & up. The USB based  is most defiantly cute and colorful. The big letters and words allow children to recognize the keys with ease. How much better can you get for $30?

I want one! This is yet another sign that our day and age is quickly advancing into a newer age. when I 1 year old can play basic games using a computer and mouse - YOU KNOW something is changing. For those of you that like change, fasten your seat belt, it is time!

9 ) SAFETYPE ERGONOMICS COMPUTER KEYBOARD

SafeType Computer KeyboardAnother odd looking gadget here. We have all seen the split keyboards and even ones that are have a slight angle on them to ‘help’ people type. I however have never been able to adapt to that technology. In fact I find it hard to stray away from things I’m used to especially the good ol’ original keyboard.

SafeType is the first vertical keyboard and is quickly becoming well known for it’s offerings. Pricing is current setting at $180 which in my opionon is really high. Before purchasing you must know that this keyboard is not designed for those that type all day long but rather input data 95% of the time.

10 ) MALTRON ERGONOMIC COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Maltron Computer KeyboardI know we have seen some keyboards like this but nothing this intense. Designed to fit every part of your hand and fingers this keyboard is split up into five different sections. Split design eliminates wrist twist and allows a central number cluster which can be used by either right or left hand preference. As mentioned earlier, I personally do not normally like these type keyboard but would be willing and eager to give this one a try.

Do you know of any other new technology keyboards in 2008?

First of all great post! Starting to see some really good content here, keep up the good work!

Secondly I’d have to say that while most of these keyboards probably function very well for the audience they were designed for, the one that suits me best is probably #8 the Crayola keyboard :P

#1 - reminds me too much of HAL… scary
#6 - looks like a next gen pong controller - sweet, Pong ftw!
#7 - I think i had a keyboard like this once, bought it off Ebay from the crazy German kid… miss a few keys, wonder why - heh

    Hi Folks!

Just wanted to share my new experience.

If your system denies to start due to an error related to missing HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other important system boot files you can fix this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then launch “attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Run “Bootcfg /Rebuild” and then Fixboot

    Cheers,
    Carl
